Things I look for in a message board system
- able to customize the look completely
-ease of use of the cp
- easy to access support
- ability to add smilies
zeta, and invision are the only boards I have run accross that fit all the pre requisites

I feel that the best forum Software is definitely vBullitien. Its just SEXY.

I haven’t really tried vBulletin, to be honest. I have worked with IPB and I absolutely love the features. How is vBulletin in comparison to IPB in your own opinion Ruben?

Have you guys tried out other forum systems? Or paid ones? Or are you just saying that those are the best free forum systems you’ve encountered?

From both my forum experience and my admin experience, (only Forumotion, Invisionfree and Zetaboards for my admin experience though) definitely Zetaboards. Zetaboards is sorta the upgraded version of Invisionfree. Forumotion is so unorganized… It’s also due to the fact that I’ve sorta ‘grew up’ on Zetaboards/Invisionfree.

Ive only handled ZB and IPB. ZB beats every free forum out there. Hands down. And IPB beats every paid forum I have ever seen, or heard other people talk about. I am not sure which is better. ZB or IPB. If you have the money, Id say IPB. But ZB is a close second.

Invision Power Services forum software IP.Board, commonly known as IPB, is the best in my opinion. They have invested many years of improvements to make the elite in forum code.

I prefer ZetaBoards. I have used EZboards, InvisionFree, Multiply, and an obscure one or two. I find ZetaBoards the most versatile and functional, although it is still going through some growing pains with various odd little bugs that pop up here and there. Although it is not super-intuitive, the support is good enough that you can usually find out a way to do whatever it is you wish to do.
